We encourage all of our members to travel by the most sustainable, lowest carbon method available, but understand that at certain times most of us like to use a car for the flexibility, comfort and convenience it offers.

WhizzGo allows you to pick the best way for you to travel; you no longer need to have a car sat outside costing you money and can now choose the most appropriate form of transport for your trip.

Here’s how WhizzGo helps to reduce carbon emissions:

• Fewer cars on the road

For every WhizzGo vehicle, research shows that up to 20 private vehicles are taken off the road (figures calculated from membership surveys and from Carplus, the independent accreditation body for car clubs in the UK). WhizzGo's 2008 Carplus Accreditation Survey revealed that 26% of WhizzGo members have sold their car since joining the service and a further 31% of WhizzGo members have deferred buying one. That’s a huge 57% of our members who have sold or avoided buying a vehicle. So by becoming a WhizzGo member you can directly influence the number of cars on the road in your area.

• Fewer trips and long term behaviour change

WhizzGo members tend to plan trips to maximise their savings, so as a member you will reduce the number of hours you spend in a car. You can also embrace other options available to you, including walking, cycling or public transport. Our partnerships with public transport providers also make it even easier for you to make a sustainable choice for your travel needs.

• More efficient use of a car

WhizzGo cars are utilised frequently throughout the day so the engine has less time to cool between trips, and so works more efficiently.

• Eco driving

We’ll give you eco driving tips, encouraging you to maximise fuel efficiency and make a full tank last longer. Our operations team make sure all the cars are in top condition and look after things like tyre pressure and oil, but we also encourage you to think about the way you’re driving.

• Lower emissions and energy efficient vehicles

We always choose vehicles based on their emissions data. To find out more about our cars, click here. Typically, the cars we take off the road are older than average and these cars often have an emissions rating as much as twice that of a WhizzGo car.

• Lowering emissions with technology

Engine efficiency is improving all the time, leading to significantly lower quantities of fuel being required. More and more alternative fuels are becoming available within the UK market, and we always seek to make the most of these advances in technology and push our partners to supply low emission vehicles suitable to our fleet. As members of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, we are at the cutting edge of developments, and have the opportunity to comment on and trial the latest technologies available. Currently, stop and start technology, as well as hybrid and LPG vehicles are available as part of our fleet in certain locations.
